Electricity network 'stretched to its limits,' minister says

In comments to Skai on Friday, Energy Minister Costis Hatzidakis said he could not rule out the possibility of power cuts as the country's electricity network "is stretched to its limits."

Efforts are being made to ensure that the network operates as smoothly as possible, he said. noting however that extended neglect has taken its toll.

Abandoned house in central Athens collapses; no injuries

An abandoned old house collapsed in Athens' so-called historical centre on Tuesday, private broadcaster Skai reported.

No people appeared to be trapped inside and no injuries were reported from passersby.

The house was located on Iouliou Smith street, right behind the Hill of the Pnyx - an area visited by hundreds of tourists.

A Greek urban guerrilla group claimed responsibility on Tuesday for a blast last month outside one of Greece's biggest TV stations and it accused media of promoting a "capitalist" agenda in the country.

Explosive device goes off outside church in central Athens; officer injured

A homemade explosive mechanism blew up outside Aghios Dionysios church in the upscale Athenian district of Kolonaki on Thursday morning injuring a policeman, Greek media reported.

The device was placed inside a metallic box discovered by a church employee who notified police, according to the head of the police's special guards union, Stavros Mavroidakos.
