French far right wins record votes in first poll since attacks

France's far-right National Front (FN) saw record gains in the first round of regional polls Sunday, held under a state of emergency just three weeks after Islamic extremists killed 130 people in Paris.
 
Despite the strong result, it faces an uphill battle to clinch a run-off vote next week after Socialists withdrew candidates in an attempt to block it from power.
 

Portugal's Ruling Centre-Right Coalition Wins General Elections

The ruling centre-right coalition, composed of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the People's Party (CDS-PP), won the general elections held in Portugal on Sunday.

With almost all votes counted, the centre-right coalition leads with 37 % of the votes, followed by the Socialists with 32 %.

Bulgaria's Stanishev to Face 71-Year-Old Candidate for 2nd PES Term

MEP Sergey Stanishev, who heads the Party of European Socialists (PES), is now officially running for a second term, a recent post on Facebook has suggested.

Stanishev has used his profile to remind that he will take part in the election that is to be held in Budapest on June 12-13, at a congress of his party.
