A bright moment is a rare but welcome occurrence in a country going through the seventh year of a multifaceted crisis and whose residents are sick and tired of the repeated dead-ends they come up against.
Greek pole vaulter Katerina Stefanidi winning the gold medal at the IAAF World Championships in London on Sunday night was one such moment.

Bulgarian High Jump Athelete Tihomir Ivanov Qualifies for the Finals in London
Bulgarian high jump athlete Tihomir Ivanov has qualified for the final of the World Championships in Athletics in London.
He managed to overcome the first and second heights without any problem. At 2.26 m and 2.29 m it initially made a mistake, but during the second attempt he managed to correct it.
Ivanov cleared 2.31m, a personal record for him.

Turkish sprinter wins silver at World Athletics Championships
Yasmani Copello Escobar of Turkey won silver in the men's 400 meter hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in London on Aug. 9, giving his country its first medal at this year's competition.
Escobar finished in a time of 48.49 seconds, behind Norway's Karsten Warholm who took gold in 48.35 seconds.

Ivet Lalova qualified without problems for the 200m semi-finals at the World Championship in London, according to Dnes.bg
She finished second, giving her the chance for the next round (the semi-finals are on Thursday at 23:05).
Ivet finished for 23.08 sec, giving the first place to American Diaz Stevens - 22.90 sec.
Young Turkish javelin thrower makes it to final in London
Turkish athlete Eda Tuğsuz will be aiming for another career milestone on Aug. 8 in the women's javelin event at the World Athletics Championships in London.
Tuğsuz, 20, made the final with a throw of 63.87 meters in the qualifications on Aug. 6, beating the mark of 63.50 meters for automatic qualification.
Ivet Lalova Dropped at 1/2-final of 100 Meters at the World Championship in London
Ivet Lalova finished her sprint at 100 meters in the semifinals of the World Athletics Championship in London. She finished the penultimate 7th in her series, though she achieved her best score this season - 11.25sec. Slower than Ivet in the three semi-final series were five sprinters and so the Bulgarian took the final 19th place.
Gold Medal for Katerina Stefanidis at the World Championship (VIDEO)
Another page of glory in her career and the history of the Greek sports was written on Sunday evening by Katerina Stefanidis, who won the gold medal at the World Athletics Championship and so she became the first Greek athlete to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games, World Championship and European Championship.
The gold medalist of Rio secured the first place by jumping at 4.82m.
Stefanidi vaults to the top of the Worlds
Katerina Stefanidi has added the World Championship title in London to her Olympic gold medal in Rio last year, after triumphing in the pole vault final on Sunday with a national record of 4.91 meters. She actually finished 16 centimeters above competition on the nght.
