According to this quarterly overview, VC trends in the CEE region have been closely mirroring the global downturn as the total value of disclosed funding rounds settled at €560M.

Startups and scaleups from Central & Eastern Europe have a last chance to APPLY to CEE Startup Challenge, the flagship competition in the region organized by Vestbee, the leading community-powered matchmaking platform for startups, VC funds, accelerators, and corporates. 

The Greek armed forces are to link with local startups from which they can order advanced equipment and applications, according to draft legislation that will be opened to public consultation next week.

The goal is for the Ministry of Defense to initially invest up to €100 million in innovation over a three-year period through a company it will set up.

According to the ranking of StartupBlink ("Top 100 Countries for Startup-Business Friendliness 2023"), an organization that evaluates and maps the startup ecosystems of 1,000 cities in 100 countries worldwide, Greece is among the countries with the friendliest business environment for startups, coming in at 37th place and moving up six places compared to the previous count.

In line with the global startup activity, the Turkish startup ecosystem witnessed growth in both deal volume and deal count in the second quarter compared to the January-March period, according to a report by KPMG.

There were a total of 77 deals in the second quarter of 2023, and the total deal volume was $150 million, including startup acquisitions.

The total deal volume in the Turkish startup ecosystem, including acquisitions, has amounted to $78.9 million in the first quarter of 2023 with 53 deals, shows a report by KPMG Türkiye and 212.

Global startup funding carried out $76 billion, which indicates a sharp decline, compared to the record-breaking first quarter of last year, the report noted.

Greek startups, including those based abroad and founded by Greek expats, have, so far this year, drawn $872 million from 83 investors. But the financial climate is more reserved than last year, and even more so than the almost free-for-all 2021.
