Romania will purchase F-35 Lightning II fighter jets from the US, the Supreme National Defense Council decided at its meeting today, BTA reported.

Members of Romania's Supreme Council of National Defense approved the so-called "Concept for achieving operational air defense capability with fifth-generation multi-role aircraft", announced the administration of President Klaus Iohannis.

The Greek Defense Ministry is expected to decide next week whether Athens will propose to Lockheed Martin the inclusion of SSI (security, supply, information) and infrastructure programs in the F-35 fighter jets package with the participation of the Greek defense industry.

The delegations of the Turkish Defense Ministry and the U.S. Department of Defense held the second round of F-35 fighter jets consultations in Washington on Jan. 19, Türkiye's Defense Ministry has informed.

"The delegations agreed upon the continuation of the consultations. The following meeting is scheduled to take place in Ankara in spring 2023," said the statement.

The test was reportedly carried out on October 21 near Moscow, but the Russians did not specify whether the new version of the aircraft also used the long-awaited new "Izdeliye 30" engines, which should significantly improve the performance of the Sukhoi 57.

That portal referred to the statements of an unnamed U.S. diplomat and two other officials familiar with the case, who requested anonymity.
According to their reports, the original plan was to send those bombs to NATO bases in the spring, but now that deadline has been pushed forward, to this December.

The United States administration has underlined in a letter to the Congress that the potential sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey would serve both U.S. and NATO security interests, particularly in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Officials from Turkey and the United States will hold a second round of talks for the resolution of the F-35 fighter jet saga, sources from the Turkish Defense Ministry said a day after the two countries' leaders met in Rome. 

Turkey's state-run aviation company, Turkish Aerospace (TAI), is building Europe's second-largest subsonic wind tunnel for testing the country's fighter jets.

"The wind tunnel is intended to be used in the development of indigenous, rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft, especially the Turkish Fighter," a press release read on June 18.
