Number of jailed journalists in Turkey 'dramatically increases' in 2015: CPJ report
The number of journalists jailed in Turkey has dramatically risen in 2015, according to a special report by the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).
The report noted that 199 journalists were imprisoned worldwide in 2015, with China and Egypt ranking as the world's first and second worst jailers of journalists.

Balyoz leaves a disgraceful stain on Turkish press
When the first group of soldiers were taken under detention in February 2010, a month after prosecutors began an investigation upon the news story broken by daily Taraf about a coup plan dating from 2003 to topple the government, I believe the very first reaction of some of us (meaning journalists, academics, elites, etc.) was not so much about ?why? it happened but more about ?how?

Mehmet Baransu, a Turkish journalist who first made a name for himself by publishing secret military documents, was arrested earlier this week. He is accused specifically of exposing the ?Sledgehammer? documents that he published in daily Taraf in June 2010 to great sensation. The documents seemed to suggest that a ?war simulation?

Turkish journalist arrested over evidence in Balyoz case
Journalist Mehmet Baransu was arrested on March 2 after being detained by anti-terror police in Istanbul in an operation over the CDs that were used as evidence in the Balyoz (Sledgehammer) coup plot case.
Baransu is accused of "forming a criminal organization," as well as procuring, publicizing and then destroying "documents related to the state's interests at home and abroad."
