Turkish Olympic shooter aims to trademark viral stance
Türkiye's Olympic pistol sharpshooter Yusuf Dikeç has filed to trademark his nonchalant stance at the Paris Games that went viral around the world, his coach said on Sept. 1.
His coach Erdinç Bilgili said that the move to protect the commercial use of his pose with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office came in response to others trying to trademark it without Dikeç's say-so.

Sumerologist turns 109
Veteran Turkish Sumerologist Muazzez İlmiye Çığ, who lives in the southern province of Mersin, has turned 109 years old. Mersin's Mezitli district Mayor Neşet Tarhan made a surprise visit to Çığ and at her home with his wife Sembol Tarhan.

'Salt Bae' moves to house of 'The Grand Poet'
World-renowned Turkish chef Nusret Gökçe, known as the Salt Bae, has moved to an apartment once owned by 20th-century Turkish playwright Abdülhak Hâmid Tarhan, popularly known as "Şair-i Azam" (The Grand Poet).

Man detained in western Turkey years after refusing military service
LGBTI activist Mehmet Tarhan, who refused to serve in the Turkish military in 2001 but was forcibly drafted in 2005, has been detained on a charge of "defying military law" in the western province of Ayd?n, according to a message posted on his Twitter account.
Turkish MPs head to Baghdad for kidnapped workers
Deputies from the Republican People's Party (CHP) arrived in Baghdad on Sept. 5 to monitor rescue efforts for 18 abducted Turkish workers, official sources said, as daily Hürriyet reported that the workers were taken away in 16 vehicles by the kidnappers.
