BEIJING/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States and China escalated their acrimonious trade war on Thursday, implementing punitive 25 percent tariffs on $16 billion worth of each other's goods, even as mid-level officials from both sides resumed talks in Washington.

Turkey has launched a legal process against U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, the Trade Ministry said in a written statement on Monday.

Turkey invited the U.S. to a panel in the World Trade Organization (WTO) about doubling tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, Turkish Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan said on Wednesday.

The White House on Aug. 15 said U.S. tariffs on aluminum and steel imports from Turkey are "specific to national security." 

AFP - China has blasted US tariffs on solar panel imports, filing a complaint at the World Trade Organization in the latest salvo of the trade battle between the world's two economic giants.

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkey doubled tariffs on some U.S. imports including cars, alcohol and tobacco on Wednesday in retaliation for U.S. moves, but the lira rallied a further six percent after a fresh move by banking authorities to underpin the currency.

Turkey has increased tariffs on several United States-origin products.
