It’s Time to Ask Whether Romania Overreacted to COVID-19

By the time of publication, Romania had confirmed 803 deaths from COVID-19. Experts calculate that the death toll will reach 1,000 by the time the epidemic ends. So we can say that the death toll would have hit 3,000, had Denmark-like restrictions have not been imposed. This is to say, 2,000 more people would have died if the Romanian authorities had gone the Swedish way.

The government will satisfy the demands of the carriers and the TOLL system will start with lower tariffs. Only the motorways and first-class roads will be covered by the TOLL system, and the second-class roads will be toll-free.

This became clear after a meeting of the protesting carriers with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, which lasted 3 hours.

More than 54,000 Vehicles Passed through Trakia Motorway on September 20th

54,067 vehicles were registered by the traffic cameras of Trakia Motorway at the exit of Sofia on September 20 - the last business day before the three weekend days for the Independence Day. Of these, 28 712 were traveling to Burgas and 25 355 vehicles were heading for Sofia, Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) traffic cameras at the exit of Sofia report showed.

The Toll System Will Be Put into Exploitation Today

The toll system will be put into exploitation with a trial period which starts today.

The cameras which will detect the traveled distance are already installed. 

The TOLL system starts the testing today, however, the actual collection of the charges for trucks over 3 tonnes and a half will start in March next year.
