Turkish Airlines carried some 72 million passengers last year
Turkish Airlines carried a total of 71.8 million passengers in 2022, with the international passenger tally rising nearly 6 percent.
Last year, the carrier served 46.3 million international passengers, and the load factor on the international routes was 80.2 percent, Turkish Airlines said in a filing with Borsa Istanbul.
Istanbul Airport busiest in Europe last year
Istanbul's mega airport was the busiest in Europe last year, according to the latest data from Eurocontrol.
It was again a very close race for the top spot, with İGA Istanbul narrowly finishing the year on top with 1,156 daily movements. Amsterdam Schiphol takes the second spot with 1,140 daily flights, down 18 percent from 2019, Eurocontrol said in a report.

Turkish Airlines receives new plane, expanding its fleet
Turkish Airlines has received a new airplane, expanding its fleet, Bilal Ekşi, the CEO of the flag carrier has announced.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner joined the company's fleet on Dec. 31.
"In 2003, we had 65 airplanes. Now we are entering 2023 with 393 airplanes," Ekşi wrote on Twitter.
First payment on Digital Turkish Liras Network executed
Within the scope of the first-phase studies of the Digital Turkish Lira Project, the first payment transactions on the Digital Turkish Lira Network have been successfully executed, the Central Bank said.
The bank said in a statement that it will continue to run the limited, closed-circuit pilot tests with technology stakeholders in the first quarter of 2023.

Turkish Airlines (THY) aims to achieve a growth of between 15 to 17 percent next year, says Ahmet Olmuştur, its chief marketing and sales officer at the flag carrier, adding that the carrier will continue to expand its fleet with new aircraft.

Turkish Airlines largest carrier in int’l seat capacity
Turkish Airlines was the largest network carrier in the world in August in terms of the available seats on international routes, the company has said.
Turkish Airlines increased its seat capacity by 14 percent and carried 7.8 million passengers in the months of July and August.
THY carries nearly 47 million passengers
Turkish Airlines carried 46.6 million passengers between January and August, while the passenger load factor was 78.9 percent, the company has said in a filing with Borsa Istanbul.
In the first eight months of the year, the flag carrier served 29.65 million international travelers, up 2.6 percent compared to the same period of 2019.

Turkish Airlines becomes Champions League partner
Turkish Airlines has become the first airline to partner with the UEFA Champions League, with the 2023 final to take place in Istanbul.
As part of the deal, Turkish Airlines will also partner with the UEFA Super Cup, the UEFA Futsal Champions League finals, and the UEFA Youth League finals, the UEFA said.
