More bicycle lanes planned for downtown Athens

The Greek capital's network of bicycle lanes is set to be expanded to include the areas of Kypseli, Ambelokipi, Exarchia, Kolonaki and Petralona.

The project includes the creation of new lanes and separated bikeways, the City of Athens said in a statement. These will be added to the existing path connecting Gazi in downtown Athens to Faliro on the southern coast.

The president of Greece's Union of Municipalities and Communities (KEDE), Giorgos Patoulis, has urged the government to improve accessibility for disabled people.

He issued the plea in the wake of report on Monday that a man in a wheelchair was forced to travel in the enclosed car deck of a ship because there was no accessibility to the passenger areas.

Eight Injured as Taxi Rams Pedestrians near Moscow's Red Square (Video)

Eight people, including two visitors from Mexico, were injured Saturday when a taxi crashed into pedestrians on a sidewalk near Red Square in Moscow.

Russian police said the driver in the crash has been detained. Preliminary information indicated the driver lost control of the vehicle.
