Ukraine To Close Consular Office In Bulgaria's Varna

Ukraine will close nine consular offices, including that in Bulgaria's coast city of Varna, reports the RIA Novosti news agency.

According to Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis, the goal is to optimise state expenses.

The consular offices were selected on the basis of least amount of work.

Varna Court Asked to Extradite Convicted Drug Smuggler to Germany

The Varna District Court has arrested German national Maxim Schmidt under a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) issued by the prosecuting authority in Aachen.

The 37-year-old German national is wanted in Germany to serve a prison sentence issued by the regional court of Aachen for smuggling heroin.

The prison term of a year and a half was imposed for offences committed in 2006.

Varna TPS, CEZ Employees to Hold Protest Rally in Sofia

About 300 employees of power distributor CEZ and the Varna Thermal Power Station (TPS) are to march in Bulgaria's capital Sofia on Thursday.

They are demanding that the state intervene to prevent a closedown of the power plant from January 1, 2015 and layoffs at CEZ Bulgaria, the Bulgarian branch of Czech-based electricity distributor CEZ.

Businessman Veselin Mareshki Facing Year in Jail for Hitting Varna Official

Veselin Mareshki, a controversial entrepreneur owning a national pharmacy chain, has been detained in the Black Sea city of Varna, where he lives.

Pre-trial proceedings have been launched for inflicting bodily harm after Mareshki and municipal councilor Kamen Kostadinov were embroiled in a brief fight early on Thursday.
