Venice International Film Festival Begins

The 76th edition of the Venice International Film Festival begins.
The 76th Venice International Film Festival is organised by La Biennale di Venezia, and will take place at Venice Lido from August 28th to September 7th, 2019. The Festival is officially recognised by the FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Association).

Angelopoulos's 'Landscape in the Mist' voted among BBC's 100 greatest foreign-language films

"Landscape in the Mist" by late Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos has been voted among BBC Culture's 100 greatest foreign-language films.

The 1988 film, a coming-of-age story about two young souls in search of their father, won the 1988 Venice Film Festival Silver Lion.

'Sivas' named Turkey's nominee for Oscars

Director Kaan Müjdeci?s film ?Sivas? has been selected as Turkey?s nominee for the Best Foreign Film Award at the 88th Academy Awards. 

Set in the steppes of Central Anatolia, the film is a coming-of-age story in which a boy, named Aslan, rescues a wounded Anatolian shepherd in a ditch, after which he forges a strong friendship with the dog.

Turkish director's film wins prize in Venice

Turkish film director Emin Alper?s latest movie received the Special Jury Prize at this year?s Venice International Film Festival, organizers announced Sept. 12.

Alper?s 114-minute dystopian film ?Abluka? (Frenzy) centers on the story of two brothers who are struggling to survive under ?heavy political violence.?

The film stars Turkish actors Mehmet Özgür and Berkay Ate?.

Reception held for Turkish films in Venice

A reception was held on Sept. 6 in Venice for three Turkish films screening at the 72nd Venice Film Festival. Under the auspices of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry, the reception took place at a hotel on San Clemente Island. 

This year, young Turkish director Emin Alper's "Abluka" (Frenzy), is among the 21 films competing for the Golden Lion.
