Reception held for Turkish films in Venice
A reception was held on Sept. 6 in Venice for three Turkish films screening at the 72nd Venice Film Festival. Under the auspices of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry, the reception took place at a hotel on San Clemente Island.
This year, young Turkish director Emin Alper's "Abluka" (Frenzy), is among the 21 films competing for the Golden Lion.
Newcomer Senem Tüzen's "Ana Yurdu" (Motherland) will compete for the Lion of the Future award, while late Turkish actor and director Y?lmaz Güney's classic "Umut" (Hope) will be among the 21 films restored for the Venice Classics section.
Directors Alper and Tüzen and producers Nadir Operli, Enis Köstepen and Olena Yershova attended the reception. Güney's wife, Fato? Güney, was also at the reception, along with Melike Demira? and many other guests.
Oscar-winning Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón is the president of the jury for the main Golden Lion competition. Among the nine-member jury that includes actress Diane Kruger, Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski and Italian director Francesco Munzi, is Turkish filmmaker Nuri Bilge Ceylan, the winner of 2014 Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, which opened on Sept. 2 and will continue until Sept. 21.
