Rize’s tea masters to share Turkish brewing art in Japan

In a bid to showcase the rich tradition of Turkish tea, the Trade Ministry is bringing expert tea brewers from the Black Sea province of Rize to Japan from Dec. 11 to 13, where they will host classes and competitions, offering a taste of the country's finest tea craftsmanship to Japanese enthusiasts.

Türkiye's northern coast, with its nascent entrepreneurial model, is attracting international tourists through several workshops that delve into the renowned tea production journey.

These workshops offer participants a comprehensive glimpse into the intricate process, from the verdant tea fields of the Black Sea Region, particularly Rize, to the meticulous packaging stages.

Ministry to back promotion of Turkish tea, salmon

The Trade Ministry has announced that it will provide support to promote Turkish salmon and tea within the scope of the "Turquality Support" project.

According to a statement from the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKİB), the projects prepared by DKİB for the promotion of Turkish salmon and tea have been endorsed by the ministry.

150,000 Bangladeshi tea workers strike against dollar-a-day wages

Nearly 150,000 workers at more than 200 Bangladeshi tea plantations went on strike Saturday to demand a 150 percent rise to their dollar-a-day wages, which researchers say are among the lowest in the world.    

Most tea workers in the overwhelmingly Muslim country are low-caste Hindus, the descendants of labourers brought to the plantations by colonial-era British planters.    

Turkey breaks own record in tea consumption amid pandemic

Turkey has broken its own record in tea consumption with an increase from 3.5 to 4 kilograms per person annually amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report by the International Tea Committee.

Consumption at cafes or tea houses declined due to lockdowns and curfews, but the pandemic did not stop tea consumption from exceeding previous levels.
