Zero Waste Foundation established, first lady announces
As part of Türkiye's endeavor to contribute to recycling and reduce its waste burden, the Zero Waste Foundation was established, and efforts have commenced to create a global fund for this purpose, First Lady Emine Erdoğan has announced.
Istanbul witnesses slight drop in daily waste amount: Data
The amount of daily garbage collected in Türkiye's most populous city Istanbul decreased from 18,000 tons to 17,000 tons, as the daily food waste rate experienced a minor 4-percent reduction compared to the previous year, data by a municipal subsidiary has shown.
Secondhand car sales plummeting
Sales of secondhand cars have been declining as more brand-new cars have become available in the market and due to the combination of other factors.
In the last three years, the prices of secondhand vehicles had been on the rise, but this stopped in July after the Trade Ministry imposed some restrictions on the sales of secondhand cars.

Secondhand car sales slow but prices unmoved
Secondhand car sales have been slowing since the Trade Ministry announced a raft of measures targeting the market a month ago, but prices are not coming down.
Some traders in Istanbul say they did not sell a single secondhand vehicle in August because consumers have put car buying on hold, waiting to see if the prices will decline.

Alarm raised over illegal landfills on Mt Aegaleo

Crete: Human head discovered in waste sorting facility
Police in Crete are investigating the discovery of a human head, likely to be that of a male aged in his 30s, at a waste sorting facility in Hania.
Upon discovery of the gruesome find, the unit, based in Akrotiri, shut down operations and called police.
A search then began in other waste containers in an effort to locate other body parts.
EU pushes to slash food waste
The European Union has put forward a plan to impose binding targets on its 27 member states to slash food waste from households, retailers and restaurants 30 percent this decade.
Brussels estimates the bloc generates almost 59 million tons of food waste a year - or 131 kilograms per person.
That represents a loss of some 132 billion euros ($144 billion).
