Cold front Medea advances south

Cold weather front "Medea" is increasingly making its presence felt by expanding into southern Greece, meteorologists say.

In the northern central Macedonia region, snowfall continues but has abated, according to local authorities, but frost will settle in and make roads treacherous, meteorologists warn. Local authorities say traveling could be treacherous without snow chains.

Snow coverage low in Greece despite cold front

The current percentage of snow cover in Greece is approximately 6 percent, lower than the average rate of the period 2004-2020, despite the recent cold fronts that have swept through the country, the Meteo weather service of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) said on Friday.

This is based on the images sent by the European satellite Sentinel-2 on January 28, 2021.

It will still rain and occasionally snow in the eastern regions of Bulgaria, BNT reports. Over the rest of the country clouds will be changeable, more often dense, but no rains are expected.

Western-northwestern wind will be moderate. Lows will vary between minus 4°C and 1°C, along the Black Sea coast - about 3°C. Highs will be from 1°C to 6°C.

Atmospheric pressure in the morning will be lower than average. During the day it will rise and by evening will be close to normal.

Today, with interruptions, rainfalls will continue and in many places will be significant. In northwestern Bulgaria it will mainly snow, as thicker snow cover will form.

Code Yellow Warning for Hazardous Weather in 4 Bulgarian Regions

A Code Yellow warning for heavy snow has been issued for two Bulgarian regions, another two have been warned of heavy rain, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) said on its website.
The warning of rain is in place for the regions of Yambol and Haskovo. Significant rainfall is expected in these areas, in places above 20 l/sq. m.
