Man, 22, arrested with €15,000 in counterfeit banknotes

Police in the northwestern city of Grevena have arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of currency forgery.

In a search of the man's car and home, officers found 85 banknotes with a face value of 15,000 euros, a small mount of cannabis and a knuckleduster.

The man was led before a prosecutor, while police are continuing their investigation.

Border guard arrested for stealing money from colleagues

Greek police's internal affairs division arrested on Thursday a border guard for repeatedly stealing money from his colleagues at a pre-departure detention center for migrants in northern Greece.

The officer took advantage of the brief absence of his colleagues, searched their backpacks and removed sums of money, leaving some cash so that the loss would not be detected, police said.

But as the barcode celebrates its birthday today, its days might be numbered as it faces competition from the younger QR code, the information-filled squares used in smartphones.

Attica doctor arrested after taking bribe

A 65-year-old public hospital doctor in Attica was arrested on charges he received a bribe from a patient in exchange for treatment, authorities said on Tuesday.

He was nabbed on Monday inside a hospital while in possession of an amount in pre-marked banknotes that he had received from the patient.

Police have filed a case against him.
