Seismic committee meets in wake of recent quakes
The recent seismic activity in Corinth and on Crete prompted a meeting of the Scientific Committee for Seismic Risk Assessment of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (OASP) at the suggestion of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Christos Stylianides.

Municipal employees walk off the job over worker’s death
The Federation of Local Government Workers' Unions (POE-OTA) has called a 24-hour strike on Tuesday following the work-related death earlier this month of a sanitation worker at the Municipality of Xylokastro in the northern Peloponnese.
Greece boasts 150 five-star hotels within three years
New hotel units are mushrooming across the country as investors and hoteliers agree that tourism will experience a new boom in the coming years and demand for vacations will be high.
From Santorini and Mykonos to Corinth, Evia and Attica, the Ministry of Development is constantly approving new investment projects for larger and smaller hotel units.

Greece's fire service on Tuesday boosted a unit sent to fight a blaze which broke out on Monday night in a forested area of Xylokastro, at the regional unit of Corinthia.

Fire breaks out in Xylokastro, northern Peloponnese
About 41 firefighters assisted by 19 fire engines, four water-dropping aircraft and one helicopter were on Monday trying to contain a wildfire near Xylokastro, a seaside town in the northern Peloponnese.
Local officials said the fire was posing no threat to residences in the area.

Corinth wildfire continues near Xylokastro
A wildfire that broke out on Monday afternoon in woodland on the outskirts of the holiday town of Xylokastro continued to burn unabated on Tuesday morning.
Firefighters have kept the blaze restricted to the areas of Zemeno and Throfari amid fears that it could spread to residential areas in the vicinity.

Police arrest 9 extortion ring members in synchronized raids
Nine people were arrested on Wednesday during synchronized police raids in Athens, Patra, Xylokastro and Volos as part of an operation to smash an extortion ring, authorities said.
According to officers, the nine suspects formed two gangs that have alleged links to hardened criminal and convict Panayiotis Vlastos.
Anti-terrorism squad called in after 300,000-euro bank robbery
The anti-terrorism squad joined regular police officers on Friday in the search for three armed robbers that held up a bank northeast of Athens and made off with some 300,000 euros in cash as well as a hostage who was later released unharmed.
