Greece maintains its tradition of superpower in mega yachts, as evidenced by the fact that it boasts one of the largest fleets of very large pleasure craft (over 40 meters in length) in the world

The 9th Mediterranean Yacht Show (MEDYS) will be held from April 27 to May 1 in Nafplio, in the eastern Peloponnese.

According to a statement, owners of 120 vessels have expressed an interest in the 95 available berths at the port of the southern Greek city, leading to another year with a waiting list.

The free zone in the southern province of Antalya is one of the global centers of yachts, especially for luxury yacht building, with revenues from such operations amounting to nearly $2 billion in more than two decades. 

Last year alone, a record number of 93 yachts were built and delivered to their owners, according to Zeki Gürses, the general manager of Antalya Free Zone.

In the last three years, Greece has become the country with the largest number of yachts (commercial and private) visiting, surpassing traditional leaders in the sector such as France and Italy.

Croatian refit facility and ship repair yard Adria Docks is making its Posidonia debut this summer (June 3-7) to showcase the diverse array of repair and maintenance services it provides to owners of mega- and superyachts.

Türkiye's influence on the yacht sector continues to expand as the country has both become a top destination for the most famous mega yachts in the world and a yacht production hub that exported $500 million worth of yachts this year.

Boating vacations, which in previous years appealed to a narrower audience in the summer season, continue to grow with the effect of daily rental models, thanks to the increasing isolated vacation habits after the pandemic.

After witnessing a sharp rise amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Turkish yacht sector is eyeing to reach a record export of $1.7 billion in 2022, an expert has said.

"The demand for Turkish mega and smaller yachts has soared in the last three years," Cem Seven, the head of the Turkish Ship, Yacht and Services Exporters' Association (GYHİB), told the daily Milliyet on Aug. 19.
