Air pollution due to smoke from fireplaces in Athens was significantly higher over the festive period, especially from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Despite unseasonably high temperatures, many fireplaces in the capital were used, sounding the alarm as to what could happen in the event of a harsh winter.

Costas Karamanlis: The signing of the contract for E65 highway on Thursday
The contract for the northern part of the E65 highway will be signed tomorrow, as announced by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Costas Karamanlis, speaking to Parapolitika 90.1 FM. "A very big effort has been made in the last 23 months, we have worked intensively to unblock projects that we found "stuck".

Police raid Zografou dormitories, 5 arrested
At least five suspects were detained during a police raid on the grounds of a complex housing university students in Zografou, eastern Athens, on Wednesday.
Police said the operation was aimed at evacuating illegally-occupied dormitories as well as disrupting drug dealing at the site.
The operation was carried out in the presence of a prosecutor.

Minister announces two new bike lanes for Athens

Value of stolen university equipment estimated at 200,000
The value of the equipment stolen from the laboratories and offices of professors at the National Technical University of Athens and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens by two Albanian nationals with a prior criminal record has been estimated at 200,000 euros, according to police.
Police nab University thief; another at large
Two Albanians, ages 37 and 28, are responsible for a series of equipment thefts from professors' offices and laboratories at the University of Athens and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) between the end of February and mid-April, police say.

Antetokounmpo family donates 20,000 masks to Athens municipality, sports group
The family of Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo donated 20,000 surgical masks which will be equally divided between the municipality of Zografou in central Athens and the city's Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth (OPANDA) to help employees protect themselves against the new coronavirus.
Twenty more arrested for ignoring store opening ban
Officers announced on Friday that 20 business owners around Greece had been arrested for disregarding a ban on the operation of their businesses, which is part of a series of government measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.
Those detained were operating retail stores, hair salons, cafes, restaurants, tavernas, florists and souvlaki restaurants, police said.
