The leader of the opposition and largest Albanian party in Northern Macedonia, the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), Ali Ahmedi tonight called on the country’s Constitutional Court to reject all appeals filed with it challenging the law governing the use of the Albanian language in the country.

Former prime minister and leader of leftist SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, was awarded the Nikos Nikiforidis Peace Prize on Tuesday for the Prespa Agreement that was reached in 2018 between Greece and the then Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), resolving a long-standing dispute between the two countries./p>

US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien hinted on Tuesday that Washington is exerting pressure on the new government of North Macedonia to respect the Prespa name agreement signed in 2018 with Greece.

The safeguards in the Prespa Agreement are very strong, former SYRIZA leader and Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras insisted on Monday in a discussion with former PM of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev, at an event organized by Tsipras' newly established institute.

Tsipras described the risk of non-implementation of the agreement as "existential" for North Macedonia.

The former prime ministers of Greece and North Macedonia, Alexis Tsipras and Zoran Zaev, who signed the landmark Prespa Agreement in 2018, have called on the leadership in Skopje to respect the terms of the deal. 

The government will table memorandums of cooperation with North Macedonia in Parliament for ratification only when it is "convinced of the neighboring country's full compliance with its international commitments," Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis has said.

Voters in North Macedonia head to the polls on Wednesday for the first round of presidential elections, in a test vote that could define the country's EU perspective.

The leader of the main opposition party in North Macedonia has said that if elected prime minister, he would refer to the country solely as "Macedonia," regardless of the 2018 Prespes Agreement that settled the dispute with Greece over the country's name.
