Palermo: The Byzantine mosaics of the cathedral have been restored – They are the second best after the Hagia Sophia

On a hill overlooking Palermo in Sicily, the Cathedral of Monreale stands as one of the lesser-known treasures of Italian art. Built in the 12th century under Norman rule, it houses the largest collection of Byzantine-style mosaics in Italy, second only in the world to those of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.

Mosaic floor found in ancient Side

The Culture and Tourism Ministry announced that a mosaic floor, dating back to the 2nd century B.C., has been discovered in the ancient city of Side in the southern province of Antalya.

The artifact came to light during works carried out within the scope of the ministry's Heritage to the Future Project.
