The brand new Thessaloniki metro keeps having teething problems.

In the latest incident, a train stopped between stations Saturday evening. The passengers, after being kept inside for 15 minutes, had to walk to the next station. 

Since then, traffic between Nea Elvetia and Panepistimio stations, that is 8 of the system's 13 stops, has been running on one track only.

Ukrainians in Greece will hold a march and rally in Athens on Saturday to mark the second anniversary of Russia's invasion and occupation of parts of their country.

The Panepistimio and Monastiraki metro stations will be closed for several hours on Wednesday on the orders of the police.

The rally will start at 1 p.m. at the University of Athens central building.

Trains will continue to pass through the station without stopping. 

Student, teacher and parent unions and groups are planning a demonstration in central Athens on Thursday to protest against a draft education bill that aims to introduce changes to tertiary education.

The metro station Panepistimio in central Athens will close at 4 p.m. on Tuesday due to a planned protest rally at the Propylaea.

This means the trains will pass from the station without stopping.

The Panepistimio metro station will close at 10 a.m. on Thursday by order of the police due to a scheduled students' march in central Athens.

The trains will pass through the station without making a stop, state-run news agency ANA-MPA reported.

Notaries in Athens and Piraeus decided on Tuesday to call off auctions of repossessed properties scheduled for Wednesday because of major police operations in the capital. 

Police in Athens on Tuesday ordered the closure of two central metro stations amid concerns of violence at a rally marking the eighth anniversary since the police killing of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos.

The Panepistimio metro station at Athens University will close at 3 p.m. and Syntagma at 4 p.m., and will not serve commuters until police give the all-clear.

Panepistimio metro station will remain close on Sunday from 15.00, whereas Syntagma station will remain close from 17:00 according to police orders.

During this time, rallies on the anniversary of the murder of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos will be in progress.
