The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) Party has issued recommendations about the makeup of Bulgaria's new government.

ALDE President Guy Verhofstadt declared that the worst possible outcome of the ongoing coalition talks in Bulgaria would be a cabinet with the participation of nationalist formations like the Patriotic Front and the Ataka party.

Norica Nicolai will be the vice president of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) group in the European Parliament. Liberals elected her on Tuesday in Strasbourg upon a proposal by ALDE leader Guy Verhofstadt.

Former Environment Minister Iskra Mihaylova has become the nomination of the European Parliament's ALDE group to chair the Regional Development Committee.

The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) supports a platform of Romanian Liberals gathered in the initiative group recently launched by Senate speaker Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, a former prime minister who was once head of the National Liberal Party (PNL), ALDE president Sir Graham Watson announced on Thursday.

BRUSSELS — European Union leaders on Tuesday sought a way to bounce back from the weekend's landmark elections that saw a partly hostile and largely apathetic public question their project of closer cooperation as never before.

The controversial member of the Movement of Rights and Freedoms (DPS) Delyan Peevski announced that he would not enter the European Parliament.

Peevski was second in DPS’s list at the European elections. The party will send 4 MEPs according to the latest preliminary results.

Guy Verhofstadt, leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, ALDE, has failed to convince its Bulgarian sister party, the mainly ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, not to put Peevski forward in the lists for the upcoming European elections, EurActiv reported.
