Health authorities in Athens have confiscated over 25 tons of spoiled meat and byproducts during routine holiday food inspections.

A total of 25,670 kilograms were seized from a non-producing business for violating storage guidelines and lacking proper labeling. This marks one of the largest food seizures by regional authorities.

Handling around 1.4 million analyses annually, the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry's Ankara Food Control Laboratory is playing a crucial role in ensuring food safety across Türkiye.

The laboratory processes 100 to 150 samples daily to prevent unfair penalties and ensure consumer safety.

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has initiated inspections of school cafeterias and buffets as the new school year begins. From September 16 to October 11, 2024, inspectors will examine all school-related facilities and catering services that supply food to educational institutions across the country.

Officials from the Agriculture Ministry will conduct food inspections at restaurants, hotels, cafes and other eateries until Sept. 8 to ensure that products offered at those venues comply with health regulations.

The inspections, which started on Aug. 21, will be carried out simultaneously in all 81 provinces of the country.

The Bulgarian Food Safety Authority (BFSA) has identified two shipments of frozen chicken legs from Poland for Bulgaria contaminated with salmonella. The total quantity is 32 350 kg. The meat is banned and is not allowed to be traded on the Bulgarian market.
