Istanbul exhibition explores Kafka’s works on 100th death anniversary
The "Franz Kafka 1883-1924" exhibition, hosted by the Beyoğlu Municipality and organized by the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Istanbul, has opened at the 6th Circle Art Gallery inside the municipality building, drawing attention from art enthusiasts.
Capital district bans signs in foreign languages
The municipal council of Keçiören, a district in the capital Ankara, has unanimously approved a proposal to ban the use of signs written in foreign languages.
A statement released by the municipality on May 3 highlighted the unanimous decision to prohibit the use of foreign language signs and to mandate the use of only Turkish language signboards.

5,000-year-old fragrance displayed at exhibition
A 5,000-year-old fragrance from the Bronze Age has been showcased at an exhibition opened on İstiklal Avenue.
Beyoğlu Mayor Haydar Ali Yıldız attended the opening of the Ancient Fragrances Exhibition at Istiklal Art Gallery.

Hisart Museum to reopen with new face
The Hisart Live History Museum, which houses 1,500-year-old historical artifacts in Istanbul's Kağıthane district, will reopen on Feb. 1 after a renovation process.
Founded by Nejat Çuhadaroğlu, the renewed face of the museum was launched on Jan. 19.

Historical synagogue to become library
Restoration works at the Historical Esgher Synagogue in Istanbul's Beyoğlu district will be finished soon. The historical building will serve as the Beyoğlu Municipality Hasköy Youth Center and National Library.

Electric taxis introduced for first time in Istanbul
Istanbul's Beyoğlu Municipality and the Istanbul Chamber of Taxi Drivers (İTEO) introduced electric taxis, to be used in the city for the first time, a joint sahur event (Ramadan pre-fast meal) on June 16 in Taksim Square.
The event was joined by host Beyoğlu Mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan, İETO head Yahya Uğur, and several taxi drivers, Doğan News Agency reported.
