Cyprus offers to assist with Lebanon ceasefire

Cyprus is willing to assist in any way possible in helping implement a ceasefire brokered between Lebanon and Israel, its government said on Wednesday.

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides spoke by phone with Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Wednesday, a statement from the government spokesperson's office said.

Lebanese army prepares to deploy in southern Lebanon after cease-fire

The Lebanese army on Wednesday said it is preparing to deploy to the south of the country after a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah entered into effect.

In a statement, the army said based on a request from the government, it will deploy to southern Lebanon in coordination with the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and in implementation of the UN resolution 1701.
