EU Solar Installations Set to Break Records in 2024

The EU is poised for a record-breaking year in solar system installations, with leading markets having already exceeded their 2023 records. According to a recent analysis by the think tank Ember, strong growth has continued through the first seven months of the year, with positive forecasts for a robust finish to 2024, as reported by the Monetel agency.

Installed solar capacity exceeds 16,000 MW

Türkiye's solar energy installed capacity exceeded 16,000 megawatts (MW) as of last week, accounting for 14 percent of the country's total installed power capacity, which climbed to 111,463 MW.

The installed capacity in solar energy consists of power plants in 78 of the country's 81 provinces, while there are solar power plants with a capacity of over 111 MW in 35 provinces.

Türkiye’s solar power capacity exceeds 12,000 MW

Türkiye's installed solar power capacity surpassed the 12,000 megawatts (MW) mark for the first time, reaching 12,425 MW as of February, according to a statement by the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry.

The share of renewable energy in electricity production was over 51 percent in the first two months of 2024, the statement added.

Solar power installed capacity tops 10,000 MW

Türkiye's installed solar power capacity has exceeded 10,000 MW, according to Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez.

"This happened thanks to investments made in solar power in the recent years. The pace of investments suggest that installed capacity will rise further in the upcoming period," he said, speaking at an event in the province of Eskişehir.

Türkiye’s installed solar power capacity expected to reach 30 GW by 2030

Türkiye's installed solar power capacity, which stood at 7.82 GW in 2021, is expected to increase to 30 GW by 2030, the International Solar Energy Community Türkiye Section (GÜNDER) has said in SolarPower Europe's "Global Market Outlook 2022-2026" report.
