Nationwide blackout plunges Cuba into darkness
Cuba was racing Friday to restore electricity after the failure of the island's biggest power plant caused a nationwide blackout, coming on the heels of weeks of extended outages across the cash-strapped country.
The capital Havana came to a virtual standstill as schools closed, public transport ground to a halt and traffic lights stopped functioning.

Power blackout hits Montenegro, Bosnia, Albania and Croatia’s Adriatic coast
Montenegro, Bosnia and most of Croatia's Adriatic coast where temperatures approached 40 degrees Celcius, experienced a major power blackout on Friday, according to Montenegro power distributor CEDIS and local media.
"Almost the entire area of Montenegro is without power due to network outages," CEDIS said on its Facebook page.
Tornadoes kill six in southeastern US
Tornadoes tore through the U.S. state of Tennessee on Saturday, leaving at least six people dead, damaging homes and causing blackouts, authorities said.
Three people died in a suburb of Nashville, the southeastern state's capital, while photos posted by the city's Office of Emergency Management showed downed trees and collapsed homes.
