Nobel Prize award ceremony takes place in Stockholm
The Nobel Prize award ceremony on Dec. 10 took place at the Stockholm Concert Hall in Sweden, on the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death, while the Nobel Prize in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and economic sciences were awarded to the laureates.
Tanzanian Abdulrazak Gurnah awarded Nobel literature prize
Tanzanian writer Abdulrazak Gurnah has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
The Swedish Academy said the award was in recognition of his "uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism."
Born in Zanzibar and based in England, Gurnah is a professor at the University of Kent. His novel "Paradise" was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1994.
A German and an American share the Nobel Prize in Chemistry
The Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2021 was awarded to the German Benjamin Liszt and the American David Macmillan. The two scientists were honored for their long-term work on the development of asymmetric organocatalysis. This method has significantly influenced the development of new drugs and made chemistry more environmentally friendly, argued the Nobel Committee.

The Nobel Prize for chemistry has been awarded to German scientist Benjamin List of the Max Planck Institute and Scotland-born scientist David W.C. MacMillan of Princeton University.

Turkish-American scientist Aziz Sancar, the winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, has advised cancer patients to stay in Turkey and not go to the U.S., stressing the importance of family support in overcoming cancer.
"I tell cancer patients: 'Do not come to America,'" Sancar said on May 8 during a program broadcast on the U.S.-based Voice of America radio station.

Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureate Aziz Sancar met with President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an and Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar in Ankara on Dec. 15, stating again that he will present his medal and certificate to the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic.
