The rescue operation at the 'Pioneer' mine in the Amur region of Russia, where 13 miners remain trapped under the rubble, has been halted. Reports indicate that the decision was made due to the perilous conditions underground, with concerns for the safety of rescuers and mine personnel, as shared by the mine's administration and confirmed by state-run media outlets.

More than 50 people were reported to have died on Nov. 25 after smoke filled a Siberian coal mine and a rescue effort ended in tragedy.

Senior managers at the mine in Russia's Kemerovo region had been detained for suspected safety violations, after the latest deadly accident to hit the country's vast mining industry.

 Thirteen miners died and 10 were injured after a fire caused by burning methane erupted in a black coal mine in the east of the Czech Republic, a spokesman said Friday, reported AFP

"In total we have 13 dead miners, 11 Polish and two Czech," Ivo Celechovsky, spokesman for the OKD mining company, told AFP.

The manager of an unlicensed mine, in which a deadly explosion took place on Nov. 31, has been arrested.

WARSAW, May 5 (Reuters) - Seven Polish coal miners were missing on Saturday after a quake hit a mine owned by JSW, the European Union's largest coking coal producer, officials said.

The quake took place in the Borynia-Zofiowka-Jastrzebie coal mine in southern Poland.

Four more suspects were arrested on Dec. 5 after a mine disaster in the southeastern province of Siirt left 12 miners dead and four missing, the state-run Anadolu Agency has reported

The four latest arrests include an occupational safety specialist.

Rescuers on Nov. 27 recovered two more bodies of miners killed after a landslide at the Madenköy copper mine in the southeastern province of Siirt, a security source said.        

The death toll in Russia's worst mining disaster in recent history climbed to 36 on Feb. 28 as officials said 26 missing workers had not survived and another six, most of them rescuers, had been killed in a new explosion.

An expert report has found that the company that operated the coal mine in the Aegean town of Soma is 100 percent responsible for last year's mining accident, in which 301 workers were killed.

The bodies of the remaining five victims at the Ermenek coal mine were recovered overnight on Dec. 3, ending 38 days of painstaking search efforts.
