Greek Film Archive

The Greek Film Archive is hosting a tribute comprising 16 Italian fiction and documentary films online from February 12-22 in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute in Athens. All 16 films are new and have earned accolades on the festival circuit. They are all in Italian and will be screened with Greek subtitles.

The 16th Panorama of Ecological Films, titled "Windows to our Planet," is a series of screenings co-organized by the Hellenic Society for Environment and Culture and the Greek Film Archive from February 5 to 8. The event is aimed at informing and sensitizing viewers to the issues affecting our planet. Twelve films from nine different countries will be shown.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary with the theme "E-motions," the Balkans Beyond Borders festival of short films is taking place at the Greek Film Archive and, apart from screenings, also features workshops, cultural walks, photographic and interactive events and open discussions.

The Greek Film Archive's Lais open-air cinema is hosting a tribute to movies shot in famous urban settings, showing 13 films shot in 11 cities. The program begins at 8.30 p.m. on Thursday with Wim Wenders' 1995 "Lisbon Story." Subsequent screenings will take place at 8.30 and 10.30 p.m.

The Greek Film Archive and the Athens Festival present Cinema and the City, a real treat for cinephiles in which three restored silent films about Athens and Berlin will be screened at the archive's Lais open-air cinema this weekend.

Running at the Greek Film Archive through Wednesday, April 17, this year's Outview Film Festival, whose aim is to celebrate diversity, is dedicated to the feminist maxim "The personal is political." The Greek Film Archive hosts the 12th installment of the International Science Film Festival, bringing together fiction and documentary films from different parts of the world that are dedicated to technological advances and innovation, the human brain, our understanding of the natural world and the secrets of space, among other topics.

The Greek Film Archive pays tribute to the fresh and exciting cinema being produced in various African countries with a weeklong festival featuring selections from Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, Ethiopia, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa that explore the big and small issues of their respective societies. Admission is free of charge and screenings start at 7 p.m.

Running through April 25 at the Greek Film Archive, the Outview Festival celebrates diversity and equality with a selection of films from around the world that explore movements and trends that have redefined approaches to gender, old age and otherness. Tickets cost 5 euros per screening or 10 euros per day.

The 14th annual Ecological Film Panorama is taking place on November 22-25, organized by Elliniki Etairia (the Hellenic Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage) and the Greek Film Archive Foundation.
