Following a decision by Turkish authorities, permission for the Divine Liturgy at Panagia Soumela was granted this year for Friday, August 23, on the feast day of the Nine Days of the Virgin Mary, rather than on August 15, the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos, as had been the case in recent years.

On the 15th of August, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, reports BNT.
The day, also known as the Dormition of the Holy Mother of God, is one of the twelve great feasts in the church calendar. Festive liturgies will be held in all temples across the country.

Tuesday marks the Dormition of the Holy Mother of God for Bulgaria's Orthodox Christians, reported bTV.
Known to Catholics and Anglicans as Assumption of Mary, the holiday marks the day Christians believe the mother of Christ passed away, aged 64, and was accepted in Heaven.

Assumption Fast Begins for All Orthodox Christians
The Assumption fast begins today and continues until August 15 when one of the greatest Christian feasts, the Assumption of Virgin Mary is marked, BGNES reports.
The assumption Fast is one of the four multiday periods for prayer and chastity during the year.
