Infrastructure Min hails progress on E65 highway construction

Progress in construction work for the Central Greece Motorway (E65), connecting Macedonia with southern Greece through western Thessaly and Fthiotida in Central Greece, is "excellent," Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras said on Monday, during an on-site inspection. 

Man, 41, dies after brawl at Roma settlement

Two suspects are being questioned after a 41-year-old man died following a brawl that broke out at a Roma settlement in Pelasgia, in Greece's Fthiotida region.
Witnesses said the fight started when the two 33-year-old twin brothers accused the victim of stealing wood at the settlement. During the fight, the 41-year-old was fatally struck in the head with a pickaxe.

Domokos Prison fugitive caught after violating furlough

A 32-year-old inmate of Domokos Prison in central Greece who failed to return from a furlough on May 20 was arrested in nearby Lamia on Monday.

The inmate, who was serving a life sentence for homicide, was deemed a fugitive when he skipped out after four days of leave.

He was located in a remote mountainous area a few kilometers away from the jail.
