Last-gasp Jaksic goal sends Serbia water polo team to Olympic semi-finals

PARIS - The Serbia men's national water polo team is through to the semi-finals of the Paris Olympics after a 12-11 quarter-final victory over Greece on Wednesday.

A long-range shot by Nikola Jaksic in the dying seconds won the match for Serbia.

Dusan Mandic led the scoring for Serbia with five goals, while Dimitrios Skoumpakis stood out for Greece with three goals.

Serbia beat US to qualify for water polo world championship quarters, Olympics

DOHA - The Serbia men's national water polo team defeated the US 14-12 (2-3, 3-4, 6-1, 3-4) at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha on Friday to qualify for the quarter-finals and secure a berth at the Paris Olympics, where it will be defending back-to-back gold medals from Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.

Serbia sink Montenegro at water polo world championship

DOHA - Serbia beat Montenegro 14-6 (4-1, 2-2, 5-3, 3-0) at the water polo world championship in Doha on Wednesday.

Dusan Mandic led the scoring for Serbia with four goals while Djordje Vucinic, Viktor Rasovic and Strahinja Rasovic each scored a brace.

Earlier, US defeated Japan 18-5 in the other Group C match.

Filipovic world's best water polo player in 2014

BELGRADE - Serbian water polo player Filip Filipovic was declared the world's best water polo player for the year of 2014, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) released.

Filipovic and the Serbian water polo team won the European Championship and the World League this year. This is the second time for Filipovic to win the award, as he won the same title back in 2011.

Serbia tops Croatia for final vs. Hungary

ALMATY - Serbia is through to the final of the 2014 men's Fina Water Polo World Cup, after beating Croatia by 7-4 (2-1, 2-0, 3-1, 0-2) in the semifinal match on Saturday.

The top scorer in the Serbian team was Dusan Mandic with two goals, while Strahinja and Viktor Rasovic, Dusan Markovic, Gavril Subotic and Srdjan Vuksanovic scored a goal each.
