Not even the communists allowed themselves something like this, said President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday in relation to the incidents in southern Topoloveni, Arges County, last Friday, when ten people protesting during a visit of the Social Democratic Party (PSD, major ruling, ed. n.) leader Liviu Dragnea, were taken up by the gendarmes and rushed to the police station.

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) deputy leader, Daniel Suciu, said on Thursday, after the Social Democrats stepped out of the plenary hall, that the Opposition representatives "do not even have a quorum and are trying some cons," adding that "it is a first when three or four parties submitting a censure motion run away from their own motion."

Three protesters involved in violence against gendarmes at a rally held in Victoriei Square in February 2017 against the adoption of Government's Emergency Ordinance 13 on the laws of justice were sentenced on Friday to imprisonment and another eight received suspended sentences.

The crimes they were charged with are assault, public disorder and use of dangerous objects.

Military prosecutors ordered the forensic probe of the tear gas and irritant incapacitants present in the ammunition and containers taken from the headquarters of the Romanian Gendarmerie as part of ongoing investigations into the gendarmes' use of force during the August 10 protest.

After the Romanian General Prosecutor's Office received over 650 complaints from people who suffered after riot police violently intervened in the anti-government protests in Bucharest on August 10, it summoned a number of figures to explain their conduct on Thursday, including the head of the Special Gendarmerie Brigade, Colonel Catalin Paraschiv.

Bucharest, Aug 10 /Agerpres/ - A column of gendarmes moving, Friday evening, amongst the protesters in Victory Square, in front of the Government building, was attacked by some protesters, two of them being isolated and attacked, spurning an intervention of the gendarmes to clear the square.
