A social media post by the son of a notorious Cosa Nostra mafia boss has sparked outrage in the town of Corleone, Sicily, as it was seen as undermining the community’s efforts to rid itself of the stigma associated with its dark past in organized crime.

The leader of the far-right Spartiates (Spartans), Vasilis Stigas, decided on Tuesday to retract his expulsion of three members of the party's parliamentary group, just a few hours before appearing at the prosecutor's office of the Supreme Court for alleging they were under the influence of "outside centers" and employing "Greek mafia and Don Corleone" practices.

Opposition party Spartiates leader Vassilis Stigas lashed out at his MPs who did not attend parliament at Thursday's debate on the wildfires, expelling three of them.

The most famous line uttered by the protagonist, Vito Corleone, in Francis Ford Coppola's stunning rendition of "The Godfather" is: "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse".
