Over 2,000 Turkish citizens, along with some foreign nationals including Bulgarians, have begun boarding a Turkish warship for evacuation from Lebanon, according to the Associated Press as reported by BNR. The Turkish amphibious assault ship, Bayraktar, was part of a convoy of five vessels that departed from Mersin, a southern Turkish port, early Wednesday.

The European Union has launched a humanitarian airlift operation to Lebanon, as confirmed by a European Commission spokesperson today. Initially, three flights have been scheduled.

The aid package includes essentials such as blankets and tents. The spokesperson emphasized that the EU is prepared to deploy additional flights to Lebanon if the situation requires further support.

Türkiye to evacuate citizens from Lebanon on Wednesday

Türkiye is sending ships to evacuate around 2,000 of its citizens from Lebanon on Wednesday, the foreign ministry said.

Two Turkish navy ships are set to depart from the port in Mersin, a southern Turkish province, heading to Beirut on Tuesday, ministry said in a statement on X.

"The total capacity of our ships is approximately 2,000 passengers," the ministry noted.

Greeks, Cypriots being evacuated from Lebanon

Dozens of Greek and Cypriot nationals were being evacuated from Lebanon on Thursday as fighting between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah intensified.

The Hellenic Air Force sent a military transport plane to Beirut at 11 a.m. to carry out the evacuation, with state broadcaster ERT reporting that some 60 civilians are set to leave the country so far. 

First Group of Bulgarians Safely Evacuated from Lebanon Arrives in Sofia

The first group of 89 Bulgarians evacuated from Lebanon arrived safely at Sofia Airport last night, where they were greeted by acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, acting Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimira Stoyanova, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Shekerletova.
