Greece returns stolen ancient coin hoard to Türkiye
Greece on Dec. 19 returned a hoard of over 1,000 stolen ancient coins to Türkiye in the first repatriation of its kind between the historic rivals and neighbors.
The move came a few months after Türkiye publicly supported Greece in its long quest to reclaim the Parthenon Marbles from the British Museum in London.

Greece sends a strong message against antiquities trafficking and the illegal trade of cultural goods by handing over 1,055 ancient coins to Turkey. These coins, dated from the early to late 5th century BC, were seized in 2019 on Greek soil from a Turkish national who attempted to illegally import them into the country.
Greece returns 1,055 ancient coins to Turkey
Greece has returned a total of 1,055 ancient coins which were illegally excavated and smuggled out of Turkey, in the first such repatriation between the two countries.
The coins were seized by customs at the Kipi border crossing on the Greek-Turkish land border in July 2019.
