Probe launched after pupil pulls out gun at Irakleio school

Police on Crete launched an investigation after a secondary school pupil in the area of Mesara, near the port of Irakleio, pulled out a gun on the school premises. 

The local police were notified immediately by school staff and were looking into the exact circumstances of the incident that led to no injuries as the pupil did not fire the gun.  

Crete police record more than 1,900 highway code violations over Easter break

Police on Crete recorded more than 1,900 violations of the Greek highway code over the extended Easter holiday break.
Specifically, Traffic Police officers recorded 1,941 violations between April 26 through May 1 after conducting 5,905 inspections on vehicles across the island.

Vehicles burned on Crete in suspected arson attack

Police on Crete are investigating an apparent arson attack on two cars and a motorcycle in a residential car park in the Chrysi Akti area of the old town of Hania.

Firefighters were alerted to the incident in the early hours of Saturday morning and put out the fires before the flames could spread to an apartment block next to the car park.

Man dies after falling from Venetian walls in Iraklio

Police on Crete Tuesday were investigating the events leading to the death of a 40-year-old man who fell from the Venetian walls of Iraklio.

According to local media reports, the fall occurred at around 2.30 p.m.

The 40-year-old was transferred to the port's Venizeleio Hospital but died of his injuries before medics could operate.

Cretan man faces gun running charges after police find weapons cache

Police on Crete have detained a 32-year-old man after finding a large cache of weapons an  explosives at his home in Rethymno, according to a statement released on Thursday.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday after officers searched his home and turned up two Kalashnikov assault rifles, an Uzi submachine gun, nine hand grenades and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
