International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

An international campaign that aims to raise awareness on what to do as a witness in the event of violence against women and girls has been kicked off with the initiative of a United Nations body on Nov. 25.

The Greek Parliament was lit up in orange on Wednesday evening to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

As part of the initiative, the slogan "No to violence" was projected on part of the facade. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) welcomes the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, reiterating its "firm" commitment to promoting and protecting women's rights, and to continuing the fight to eradicate all forms violence against women and girls.

Thousands of women took to the streets across Turkey to mark the U.N. International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on Nov. 26.

Violence against women and girls is a serious human rights violation. Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we all must come together and take steps to eradicate this utterly unacceptable scourge.

Moroccan state television channel recently broadcast a tutorial showing women how to conceal the evidence of domestic violence with make-up, sparking public outrage.

Women in Morocco have reacted in horror after a program on state television demonstrated how they could use makeup to cover up evidence of domestic violence and "carry on with your daily life."

BELGRADE - The chairwoman of the Coordination Body for Gender Equality, Zorana Mihajlovic, said Thursday she is proud that Serbia is joining the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

UN's Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in Serbia has joined the global campaign - "16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence."

To promote awareness of this, an "SOS telephone, an artistic installation," has been placed in the central square of the Serbian state, the capital city's Republic Square.
