Air force pilot killed in F-4 crash laid to rest

The funeral was held Friday in the village of Granitis, near the northern Greek town of Drama, of a Hellenic Air Force pilot who was killed after his combat aircraft crashed in the Ionian Sea. 

The F-4E Phantom II of Captain Efstathios Tsitlakidis, 31, went down during a training exercise Monday. Co-pilot, Lieutenant Marios Touroutsikas, 29, also died in the accident.

Hellenic Air Force confirms pilot died in F-4 jet crash

The pilot of a two-seater F-4 Phantom died after the fighter jet crashed Monday in the Ionian Sea in western Greece, Hellenic Air Force (HAF) confirmed Wednesday.

A statement from HAF said that analysis of evidence from the crash site confirmed that Captain Efstathios Tsitlakidis, 31, died in the accident.

One of the pilots aboard crashed F-4 “Phantom” found dead

One of the two pilots aboard the F-4 "Phantom" fighter jet that crashed in the Ionian Sea on Monday was found dead. According to the Hellenic Air Force, the search to find the second pilot is ongoing.

The jet crashed during a low flying training exercise in tandem with another plane. The second plane was crucial in immediately locating the crash.

Reports: F4 fighter plane believed crashed off western Greece

Media reports in Athens on Monday morning claimed a two-seater Hellenic Air Force F-4 "Phantom" fighter plane went down during a training flight off the northwest coast of the Peloponnese (southern Greece), in the Ionian Sea.

According to the same reports, search efforts are underway to locate the two aviators who were flying the plane.

Greek fighter jet crashes in Ionian Sea

Two pilots are missing after a two-seater F-4 "Phantom" fighter jet of the Hellenic Airforce crashed into the Ionian Sea during a training flight Monday.

A statement from the Hellenic Air Force General Staff said the accident occurred at 10.30 a.m. 25 nautical miles (46km) south of the Andravida air base, in northwestern Peloponnese.
