Turkish intel 'neutralizes' senior PKK member

The National Intelligence Agency (MİT) has "neutralized" senior PKK member Lokman İsmail in northern Iraq, security sources confirmed on Sept. 30.

Turkish authorities use the term "neutralize" to indicate that the individuals in question have either surrendered, been killed or captured.

Local media said İsmail was the leader of the PKK's "self-defense units."

Police save sexual assailant from lynching in Turkey's south

A 59-year-old man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old boy was rescued from an attempting lynching in the southern province of Adana on Oct. 18, Doğan News Agency has reported.
The boy, identified only by his initials N.A., started to shout in the middle of the street, claiming that a man, A.T., was abusing him in the Sarıyakup neighborhood of the Seyhan district.

Janitor returns 24,500 euros found in Istanbul airport bathroom

A janitor who discovered 24,500 euros ($26,000) in the bathroom of Istanbul's Ataturk Airport has been praised for his "good character and inner conscience."

Emrah Evrensel, who earns minimum wage -currently 1,000 Turkish Liras a month (approx. $350)- cleaning the airport's VIP area, found a bag full of cash on Nov. 6, which he then turned over to the authorities.
