Vucic, Burkhalter: Major progress in bilateral cooperation

BELGRADE - Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Didier Burkhalter, president of the Swiss Confederation, foreign minister and chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), concluded on Thursday that, in the last three years, significant progress has been made in bilateral cooperation.

According to a release issued by the first deputy prime minister's office, Vucic informed Burkhalter about the results of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and underlined that an agreement in the field of judiciary will soon be reached.

The joint chairmanship of the OSCE was also among the topics, and Burkhalter underscored how important it is that the chairmanship be a success.

President Burkhalter said that Swiss companies are demonstrating great interest in investing in Serbia, while Vucic said that, with the new laws, Serbia will create even better conditions for attracting foreign investments.

Vucic underlined the new Serbian government's intent to ensure that the laws needed for conducting reforms be passed in the parliament as soon as possible.

President Burkhalter said that Switzerland will back Serbia's EU integration.

The talks also addressed the cooperation of the two countries in resolving the crisis in Ukraine within the OSCE, the release notes.

After the meeting, they attended the opening of the Swiss-Serbian Chamber of Commerce organised in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

Previously, Burkhalter and Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic signed an Agreement on paid jobs for families of members of diplomatic missions, consular offices and permanent missions in international organisations.
