Serbian President opens nitrogen plant in Majdanpek
MAJDANPEK - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic visited the copper tubing plant FBC in Majdanpek with Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Chepurin and top management of the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UGMK), and officially launched a new nitrogen plant.
Owing to the successful privatization, the copper tubing plant in Majdanpek developed into a high-end specialized manufacturer of sanitary and industrial copper tubes on a European scale, said Nikolic addressing the workers and officials at Majdanpek on Thursday after the new unit was put into operation.
In the period following the privatization, the production volume quadrupled from 3,000 to the maximum output of 12,000 tons per year, noted Nikolic.
He added that high-quality inputs, state-of-the-art equipment and use of advanced manufacturing technologies yield higher production volume and top-quality copper tubes.
"Owing to high quality of finished products, competitive market prices and good business policies, FBC meets 80 per cent of the total demand of the domestic market and is one of the largest exporters in Serbia,” said Nikolic.
Its products are exported to the markets of Western and Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa and Canada, he added.
Nikolic underlined that the opening of a new plant will help improve the quality of products and certainly contribute to the keeping of existing and drawing new business partners.
Ambassador Chepurin said that UGMK Holding invested several tens of millions of U.S. dollars in the modernization of equipment, higher quality of products and preservation of jobs in the Majdanpek plant, which operated under extremely difficult conditions over the past ten years.
