Situation in Sabac serious, but stable

SABAC - The situation in Sabac is serious, but stable nonetheless, with all previously taken measures for protecting the town from the rain-swollen Sava River still in force, Boban Birmancevic from the Sabac emergency headquarters said on Monday.

"All resources and duties have focused on the flooding hotspots, this being tree places," he said after a meeting of the emergency headquarters, underlining that all the places along the bank that the river started breaking were strengthened with sandbags, but some other critical spot could appear.

Birmanovic noted that in the next four hours all the necessary steps will be taken to reinforce the defense barriers so as to expect the night with less tension.

If all tasks are completed by 9 p.m., tomorrow authorities will be able to inform citizens that the situation has eased and become much more stable than it is at this moment, he voiced hope.
