Japan grants EUR 3mn for rehabilitation of water facilities

BELGRADE -- The Japanese government has approved a EUR 3 million grant to Serbia to help the rehabilitation of areas affected by massive flooding that hit Serbia in May.

An agreement was reached between the two governments that the funds be used for projects for rehabilitation and reconstruction of water facilities damaged by the floods, the Serbian government's media relations office has said.

The projects are aimed at repairing the damage caused by the May floods at critical locations on the water regions of the lower Danube, Sava and Morava rivers, which fall under the jurisdiction of the public enterprise JVP Srbijavode at precisely defined sectors.

These are: on the river Kolubara in Valjevo; on the rivers Jadar, Ostružanka and Lovačka Reka in Osečina; on the rivers Čađavica, Krzava, Bogostica and Likodra in Krupanj; on the river Jadar in Loznica; on the river Čemernica in Čačak, and on the river Despotovica in Gornji Milanovac.

In order to provide transparency and control of way the funds are spent, the Serbian and Japanese government agreed that Serbia should open a bank account dedicated solely to this donation.
