Technology should be used to improve higher education

BELGRADE - The Danube Rectors' Conference (DRC), whose mission is to improve education and communication between universities in the region, is being held in Belgrade for the first time, from November 5 to 7.

This year's title is Digital Culture - Synergy between Higher Education and Information Technology. Vice Rector of the Univesity of Belgrade Ivanka Popovic said that the goal of the conference was to improve academic education and cooperation between universities through the implementation of information technology.

"We should create educated young people who will be able to face all of Europe's problems and respond to economic, environmental and health challenges," she told a news conference.

More than 70 participants from 16 countries of the Danube region are at the event, which places particular focus on online courses and educational platforms, she stated.

The mission of the DRC network, which was established in 1983, is to improve education and communication between universities in the region, according to what was said at the news conference.

The network organises conferences, seminars and summer schools and takes part in projects by the EU and working groups of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.

Serbia's Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Srdjan Verbic, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport, Rector of the University of Belgrade Vladimir Bumbasirevic and President of the DRC Jiri Balik attended the opening of the event on Wednesday.
