VBA ready to respond to all challenges, threats

BELGRADE - Serbia's Military Security Agency (VBA) is a modern service fully prepared to adequately respond to all contemporary challenges and threats, the VBA Deputy Director, Brigadier General Petar Cvetkovic, has said.

Speaking at a reception hosted to celebrate VBA Day on Wednesday, Cvetkovic stressed that the service would continue to be a factor of stability and security in Serbia.

VBA Day, November 12, was established to remember the same date in 1839, when the first military law was passed in Serbia, laying the foundation for military and security and military and intelligence work in the country.

In the meantime, the VBA had gone through many changes, sharing the fate of the state and nation, adapting to the changes in society and the defense system, said Cvetkovic.

"It has been changing its name, organization and method of operation, but it has always been and will be a group of professionals and patriots who are devoted to their work and who value the honor, welfare and freedom of the fatherland above all else," he said.

Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic noted that few countries in the world can boast with such a long tradition and congratulated the members of the VBA for everything that they had done in the fight against corruption and crime.

The reception in the Old Serbian General Staff building was attended by Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and other government ministers, Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljovic, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces, as well as representatives of religious communities.
